What is Dogs in Yellow Day?

Did you know that March 20 is Dogs in Yellow Day?! This special day is dedicated to celebrating the dogs who need a little extra love, patience, and understanding: our anxious and reactive dogs. Whether it's a fear of crowds, a sensitivity to loud noises, or a need for more space in certain situations, Dogs in Yellow Day highlights these amazing dogs and their humans!

The Dogs In Yellow Day campaign was started by Sarah Jones and her nervous dog Bella, after Bella was attacked by another dog in public as a puppy and resulted in her fear of other dogs. Through their journey, Sarah realized there was a lack of awareness about how to recognize and respect the needs of dogs who might not be as outwardly friendly or outgoing. To address this knowledge gap, Sarah created the Dogs in Yellow campaign to raise awareness and educate the public on how we can all contribute to making the world a safer and more comfortable place for our dogs.

What Does Yellow Mean?

If you've ever seen a dog wearing a yellow bandana, leash, or harness, it's important to know that this isn't just a fashion statement—it is likely a signal. The yellow color is a message to you that the dog needs space.

Dogs in Yellow Day is a chance the public about why some dogs may need more space. By wearing yellow, dogs like Bella are given the chance to navigate the world without the pressure of unwanted interactions, while their owners can rest assured knowing that the people around them understand the dog's needs.

Whether you’re walking your dog in the park, going for a hike, or just out and about, respecting the yellow is a simple yet powerful way to ensure that all dogs feel safe and supported. It’s important to remember that these dogs are not being unfriendly; they are simply asking for the space they need to feel comfortable.
